The secret that wasn’t

Havering’s biggest open secret has finally been broken – the Sunday Times has named Romford’s MP Andrew Rosindell as the previously-unnamed Conservative politician who was arrested last year for alleged sexual offences and indecent assault. Bearing in mind that up until now, news reports were careful to avoid naming the bailed politician, it is not clear why the Sunday Times has now opted to publically name him – although being Murdoch-owned, the rag won’t be worried about not having the funds to fight a pricey legal case.

Within hours of the ‘mystery’ MP’s arrest being announced in May 2022, social media sleuths were able to use the scant information released about him to narrow the possible suspects down to only three – one of which was Andrew Rosindell. One snippet of information which was revealed was that the MP in question had agreed not to attend parliament until investigations were over. Two of those MPs were seen in parliament in subsequent weeks – but not the MP for Romford.

So now that this non-secret is a non-secret no more, how will Havering’s well-oiled Conservative Association spin this one?
